Meet children’s and young adult author, M.G. Harris
Special offer for first TEN schools to book a visit – a full set of all five books of THE JOSHUA FILES for your library. Most copies are first edition with PVC covers, but some (usually Dark Parallel and Apocalypse Moon) may have to be supplied as second edition paperbacks. Also – a few Joshua Files gym bags, enamel badges and glow-in-the-dark neon wristbands will be thrown in – perhaps you can run a writing contest or a quiz alongside the visit?
There’s nothing like meeting a working author to inspire young people to read and even create their own stories. This is their chance to ask all those questions they’ve been dying to know!
Best-selling author MG Harris has entertained audiences of readers at schools in the UK, Switzerland and Australia, at major sci-fi conventions, as well as at major literary festivals including at Hay-on-Wye, Edinburgh, Oxford. And in 2015 for the first time – YA Lit Con at London Comic Con!
THE JOSHUA FILES
A best-selling series of five books and translated into seventeen languages, The Joshua Files blends elements of ancient Mayan mythology, action-adventure and time-travel. You’ll also hear the story of how MG’s Mexican background and a skiing accident inspired her to write these high-octane adventures .
New from 2015 – GERRY ANDERSON’S GEMINI FORCE ONE
The new adventure series by MG Harris based on a concept developed by THUNDERBIRDS creator Gerry Anderson.
Behind the Fictions:
An audio-visual tour of the background, artwork and influences behind MG’s middle-grade adventure books.
Your chance to hear all the behind-the-scenes publishing secrets, including the exciting story of how the worldwide community of THUNDERBIRDS fans helped MG Harris and Jamie Anderson (pictured with MG Harris at the launch of BLACK HORIZON) to bring the final GERRY ANDERSON project to the page.
WHOLE SCHOOL PRESENTATION
Using videos, music and photos showcasing the exotic locations and imagery of her books, MG can entertain a hall-full of young people with stories about writing, publishing and of course, snippets from her books. All through the event there’ll be opportunities to ask questions.
In a workshop suited to 10-30 students, MG will lead you through the classic five-part story structure that forms the basis of most Hollywood screenplays.
Young people will be able to create a detailed outline for their own blockbuster, working as a group, with MG facilitating the process.
If you plan to sell books at the event, parents should ideally be notified in writing at least a week in advance so that young people can be given money should they wish to buy.
Ways to sell books in school:
- Contact a local bookstore and ask them to run a stall at your event. The bookseller will sell copies direct and may offer a discount.
- Ask a local bookseller to supply copies and then invoice you for the number sold.
- MG can supply copies of THE JOSHUA FILES—INVISIBLE CITY
For readers aged 14+
Introducing MG’s new young adult series written under the name M.G. Reyes:
EMANCIPATED (published by Katherine Tegen Books, an imprint of Harper Collins USA, is available as US import only, from May 26th)
Six gorgeous teens, all legally emancipated from parental control, move into their dream house on L.A.’s infamous Venice Beach only to discover their perfect setup may be too good to be true. The roommates—a diva, a jock, a former child star, a hustler, a musician, and a hacker—all harbour dark secrets but manage to form a kind of dysfunctional family. Until one of them is caught in a lie and everyone’s freedom is put on the line. How far are they each willing to go to hide the past? And who will they betray to protect their future?

Time for a quick recap on the launch of Orion Children’s Book’s edition of GEMINI FORCE ONE: BLACK HORIZON. The Blackwell’s cake party will be familiar. But this time, as a special treat for some Kickstarter backers and book bloggers, Waterstone’s Piccadilly also invited us to put on a London bash.
